Bengaluru has more software and technology businesses than almost any other Indian city, and many of them sell to customers who are not in Bengaluru at all. The marketing challenge is rarely getting a product built; it is explaining it so that a busy buyer understands what changes for them.
How technology buyers research and decide
A software buyer usually starts by searching for the problem, not your product name. They read comparison content, look at your documentation and pricing page, ask peers on professional networks, and often bring in a technical colleague before booking a demo. Your site is judged by that whole sequence.
This means feature lists are weak. Pages that name the problem, show the workflow before and after, and make it clear who the product is for tend to hold a serious buyer's attention. Proof should be real: genuine customer names with permission, documented integrations and honest limits.
A growing share of research happens outside your own site: in comparison articles, community threads and conversations with peers at other companies. You cannot control all of it, but you can make sure your own pages state facts clearly enough that anyone summarising your product, human or software, gets it right.
The search and platform landscape
For B2B and SaaS, Google Search and LinkedIn are the main discovery channels, supported by community spaces, review sites, developer forums and newsletters. Technical content that answers specific questions can earn visibility over time, and increasingly it is also read by AI assistants answering buyer questions, so clear, well-structured explanations matter.
For consumer and local businesses in the city, Google Business Profile and Maps matter for clinics, restaurants, coworking and services, while Instagram and YouTube serve lifestyle categories. Quick-commerce and marketplace dynamics affect product brands. Different goals need different channels, so I separate them early.
Sectors and the problems they usually have
SaaS and B2B tech firms often have a good product and a muddy message, plus a demo form that goes to a shared inbox with no owner. Deep-tech and hardware startups struggle to translate technical depth for non-technical buyers and investors. Healthcare and diagnostics providers need trust and clear booking journeys.
Education and training companies face crowded search results and need distinctive programme pages. Services firms and agencies tend to sell on reputation alone and have little structured content. Each of these is solved by clarity, structure and follow-up discipline more than by additional spend.
Bengaluru also has an unusual number of founders selling to customers abroad. For them the right model is not a Bengaluru-flavoured site but one written for the buyer's own market, with their currency, spelling and expectations. I help sort out which audience each page is really for.
What to localise
Bengaluru is a diverse city where English is the working language for most professional audiences. For consumer-facing local services, Kannada can build familiarity and trust, especially outside the central tech crowd, and it is worth testing rather than guessing. Use local area names and landmarks in a way residents recognise.
If you sell to overseas customers from Bengaluru, localise for them instead: currency, spelling, legal terms, data-handling statements and time-zone-aware support information. Indian buyers see rupees with GST, while international buyers expect clear pricing in their own currency or in USD.
How remote work works from India
I am based in Delhi NCR, in the same time zone as Bengaluru and without daylight saving, so scheduling is easy at any point in the Indian working day. I do not run a Bengaluru office. We work through regular calls, shared workspaces and documented decisions, which suits product teams already comfortable with remote tools.
I can work alongside your product, sales and engineering leads as a marketing counterpart, or supervise an in-house team. Indian clients pay in rupees plus GST, and engagement type depends on whether you need direction, supervision or hands-on delivery.
A sensible first 30 to 60 days, and what I need from you
Start by interviewing a few customers and your sales team to write down how buyers describe the problem. Rework the home, product and demo pages around those words. Fix the demo journey: what the form asks, what the confirmation says, who is notified, and how long the first response takes.
Then connect the website to your CRM so enquiries have an owner and a status, and set up reporting that counts demos held, not just form fills. Later weeks go to content, search visibility and paid tests. Timing varies with product complexity and how fast engineering can ship page changes.
Access to analytics, your CRM or sales tracker and the current product pages. Ideally a recorded demo or two, and a chance to speak with a few customers or your sales lead. These conversations are worth more than any keyword tool for understanding the language buyers use.
I also need a decision-maker on product messaging, because marketing copy that product, sales and founders each rewrite never converges. Pace depends on how often your engineering team can ship page changes, which is the usual constraint.
For Bengaluru clients, the common route is an audit with a roadmap, which gives product, sales and marketing a shared document to argue over productively. After that, work can be advisory, supervised, or hands-on per project, and fees are in rupees plus GST for Indian clients.
Mistakes I see with technology companies
The commonest is writing for engineers when the buyer is a business manager, or the reverse. The homepage then speaks to neither. I ask who signs, who evaluates and who uses, and make sure the pages answer each in turn without turning into a manual.
Another is scaling paid acquisition before the demo journey works. If the form is long, the confirmation says nothing and the first reply takes days, extra traffic only increases wasted spend. It is cheaper to fix the path first and then add volume.
- Listing features instead of describing the problem solved
- Using a shared inbox for demo requests with no named owner
- Publishing content with no link to a buying step
- Measuring sign-ups but not whether the account became active or paid
Who this suits and who it does not
It suits product-led and sales-led technology companies, and professional services firms, that want clarity before spending more on traffic. It also suits founders who want one senior person to link messaging, website, CRM and measurement.
It is not for companies looking for a quick growth-hack, or for those who have not yet decided who the product is for. If that decision is still open, the first step is positioning work, and I will say so.
If you already have an experienced head of marketing with a clear plan, you may need execution capacity more than outside direction. In that case I would suggest a narrower review of messaging or measurement, or no engagement at all.
